A TRADITIONAL doctor has appeared in a Lusaka magistrate court on a murder charge after he allegedly gave some concoctions to an unsuspecting victim to enlarge his manhood.

This is in a case in which Chipalapala Wailesi, 38, of Lusaka’s Chibolyo Township, is facing one count of murder contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence allege that Wailesi, on December 19 last year did murder Perthias Shawa.

He is alleged to have given the victim some herbs to take to enlarge and “strengthen” his manhood, but immediately after consuming the concoction, the manhood grew bigger and in the process failed to contain the pressure.

The victim was then rushed to a nearby clinic where health personnel tried to assist him but he later died.

Chief Resident Magistrate Joshua Banda told Wailesi that his case was not triable by the lower court but by the High Court.

Mr Banda told the accused that his matter could only be referred to the High Court if the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued a committal letter.

“For the foregoing reasons, you shall continue to appear before the lower court waiting for a letter of committal to the High Court, as you know by now that murder is not bailable,” magistrate Banda said.

He adjourned the matter to April 19 for mention.

And a 23-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of concealment of birth of a child before Kabwe’s Principal magistrate John Mbuzi.

Edina Shimoko, who appeared before magistrate Mbuzi, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Recently police arrested Shimoko, a resident of Kasavasa area for allegedly carrying out an abortion using a stick.

Shimoko, at the time of the act, was visiting at the Zambia National Service camp.

State prosecutor Fortune Kalima applied for adjournment of the case and Magistrate Mbuzi set April 16, 2012 as the date for commencement of trial.

Police late last month arrested Shimoko’s accomplice identified as Hilda Mutale, a widow who was believed to have assisted in carrying out the act but police cleared her after investigations.

After allegely pricking the baby many times, Shimoko rushed to a pit latrine where the baby fell in the pit and residents heard the baby crying as its mother bled heavily.
